“We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance”.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving pilot clinical service, Fit4Surgery. Due to the growth in this new and evolving service we have created a new post of a Pre-habilitation Exercise Professional.

Pre-habilitation is an emerging clinical specialty providing patient-centre care and utilising multi-modal interventions to support people to prepare both physically and emotionally for major surgery, usually for cancer. The Fit4Surgery intervention comprises both face-to-face assessment and exercise sessions with home-based exercise to support patients shielding. We are working with patients both during neo-adjuvant chemo/radiotherapy and during preparation for surgery and the project offers exercise, dietetics advice and mental health support. The Fit4Surgery project is a NHS England and Improvement funded project aiming to support patients to prepare for major surgery, usually for cancer. Initial funding supports a 2 year pilot and work has already begun to explore ongoing substantive funding for this service.

The Fit4Surgery team is looking for an experienced exercise professional to contribute to the caseload management and ongoing development of this pilot service. This post has the potential to develop and would suit a dynamic, motivated individual with a background in either physiotherapy or exercise physiology. The successful candidate would be supported to undertake appropriate training and development opportunities, particularly as the service may expand to support a wider range of patient groups. The role requires travel across Leicestershire and a flexible approach to working environment as the project utilises facilities at local authority leisure centres and the National Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (Loughborough University).

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire and the wider region and we are one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country. Our team is made up of more than 10,000 staff providing a range of services primarily for the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Our nationally and internationally-renowned specialist treatment and services in cardio-respiratory diseases, cancer and renal disorders reach a further two to three million patients from the rest of the country. We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of many research programmes and new surgical procedures, in areas such as diabetes, genetics, cancer and cardio-respiratory diseases. We are a leading centre in healthcare research and have recently been designated a Cancer Research UK centre.

UHL is currently undergoing an exciting process of reconfiguration with associated site-investment, the Government has recently announced that Leicester’s Hospitals will be getting £450m of capital investment over the next 5 years to complete our investment and reconfiguration plans.

This is a new post in the Clinical Management Group of Intensive care, Theatres, Anaesthesia, Pain Management and Sleep (ITAPS) based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and working across the three sites and at community locations. Service delivery is supported by the Perioperative Testing & Training Society (POETTS) accredited UHL Perioperative Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Service which undertakes close to 500 tests per year.

As this post is regulated by The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

Closing Date: 21-January-2021
