Job Purpose / Summary

As part of the Lifecourse team in the Health Intelligence Directorate, the Children, Young People and Families (CYPF) team works to improve child health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce health inequalities. One of our priorities is to increase the numbers of children and young people with a healthy weight and who meet recommended levels of physical activity. The team works closely with other teams in PHE and other government departments.

Working at a national level the postholder will be specifically responsible for the workstream which is supporting local areas take action to reduce rates of child obesity and to increase rates of physical activity. Priority actions will include: promoting the use of “The Local Authority Resource for promoting healthy weight in children, young people and families” and other public health resources to promote children to reach a healthy weight; contributing to resource development for children’s physical activity;working in collaboration with local government and key stakeholders to assist in the delivery of the government’s Childhood Obesity Plan.

The workstream demands management and delivery of multiple complex projects, in order to ensure effective delivery. This will involve working in a matrix way with internal and external partners, including other government departments, Local Government Association, academic bodies, voluntary and community sector national bodies, professional associations and royal colleges.

This is a part time post working 0.6 fte/3 days per week/22 hours. The post holder will work closely with a colleague holding the same job title (working 0.4 fte) but not in a job share arrangement.
