Following a successful bid for funding from the National Health Institute of Health Research, Cornwall Council is now developing a Health Determinants Research Collaborative in Cornwall.
This five-year funding will enable the Council to build a team with a deep-rooted commitment to growing research to driving our policy and understanding of how to make a positive difference to people’s lives in Cornwall.
The Service & Team:
The Centre will bring together expertise from partners across Cornwall Council, The University of Exeter, The University of Plymouth, Falmouth University, VCSE organisations, NHS and communities in Cornwall to build research infrastructure and skills across Cornwall. The Centre will help transform understanding of our people, places and wider determinants that have a significant impact of health inequalities in our communities.
The Role:
We are now seeking key appointments to lead and deliver this work including a Senior Research Support Officer for the programme over the next five years of the Cornwall HDRC. The Senior Research Support Officer will report to the HDRC Service Lead, work closely with Academic leaders and partners across Cornwall, and lead a team of research support officers in the Council.
Cornwall Council are seeking to recruit an outstanding individual to provide academic leadership and management across the HDRC. The main duties are as follows:
Have experience in delivering research results within public health / wider determinants of health and experience of applying principles of epidemiology, medical statistics and health care evaluation in a work-based environment.
Have experience of advising managers, colleagues, members and partners on a range of research or business intelligence issues.
Have knowledge of research methodologies and models, approaches, techniques, critiques and methods relevant to the wider determinants of health.
Understand the complexities and challenges of working with delivery partners.
Have skills in research and analysing/interpreting data, deriving meaning and presenting it effectively.
Provide senior level research and insight support to help meet the requirements of the new HDRC project and ensure the HDRC moves to successful and sustainable establishment.
Support the establishment of appropriate HDRC research guidelines, best practice through research, and development of new approaches.
Identify opportunities to promote research and evidence-based decision making throughout the organisation and identify opportunities to improve the relevance and efficiency of research and business intelligence activity.
To help communicate the HDRC role and purpose to stakeholders by supporting the overall project communications approach.
Assist in identifying and monitoring of key metrics to evaluate the impact of research activity and changes.
This role is fixed term until December 2028.
What you’ll need to succeed:
Potential applicants will be required to submit a CV and supporting statement. The supporting statement must demonstrate the following.
Evidence of and formal submission of scientific publications, presentation of papers at conferences, the feedback any positive results that were seen as a result.
Examples where you have supported research project previously utilising a range of research methods that induced both qualitive and quantitative research.
Examples that demonstrate your advanced knowledge of consultation, engagement and community development techniques.
