Public Health England provides strategic leadership and vision for protecting and improving the nation’s health. Its ambition is to lead nationally and enable locally a transformation in the health expectations of all people in England regardless of where they live and the circumstance of their birth. It achieves this through the application of research, knowledge and skills. Public Health England is an executive agency of the Department of Health, which started on 1 April 2013. We are a distinct delivery organisation with operational autonomy to advise and support Government, local authorities and the NHS in a professionally independent manner.
Public Health England has launched its vision to ‘Get Everybody Active, Every Day’ as part of its role supporting the cross-government commitment on physical activity, Moving More, Living More. This vision is underpinned by a programme of work that recognises the breadth of physical activity and the opportunities to embed and scale-up interventions and processes across national and local levels to create both environments that support activity and a social movement that makes physical activity everyday the social norm.
The Adult Lifestyles Manager (Physical Activity) will focus on delivering a national programme on physical activity to support implementation of Everybody Active, Every Day. They will maximise the support and resources available through local PHE Centres to local government to take action to increase physical activity and reduce physical inactivity across the life course. The post will lead on specific projects in the physical activity team, including delivery of specific task and finish projects (e.g. integration of physical activity across learning and development for specific professional groups ).
The postholder will be expected to work in partnership across PHE and with external organisations and strategic partners to support collaborations that build the evidence base for impact and maximise its implementation at a local level. This will include literature searches, field visits to learn about local implementation of current practice, supporting project proposal development, stakeholder communication, implementation guidance, analysis, report writing and presentations.
The role reports to the Adult Lifecourse Lead.
The role manages the Adult Lifestyles Officer (Physical Activity).
The Adult Lifestyle Manager (physical activity) role is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of objectives central to Public Health England’s priorities and core business, and to support collaborative partnerships and projects to reduce inactivity and promote physical activity across the life course at national, regional and local levels.
