An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dynamic band 4 Clinical Exercise Instructor with two posts available within the Black Country Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Both posts will join well established, innovative and supportive teams.
Post one is within our Psychiatric Intensive Care service based at the MacArthur Centre, West Bromwich.
Post two is to join inpatient service based at Penn Hospital, Wolverhampton.
We are looking for an individual with a strong interest in mental health and in particular acute, inpatient services for both posts.
Post 1: 0.5 (18.75 hours) – MacArthur Centre, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), West Bromwich
The Macarthur Centre is a 12 bedded male-only unit providing a psychiatric intensive care facility (PICU) within the Black Country region. The primary function of the unit is to provide short-term, intensive assessment and treatment for those patients compulsorily detained under a section of the Mental Health Act who cannot safely be managed on an open acute ward and have complex, acute mental health needs.
The post holder will be expected to support the development of the service and supporting physical activity and clinical exercise provision within this setting. The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly across a 7 day week, including evenings to meet the needs of the PICU.
Working alongside experienced occupational therapy and ward nursing staff the clinical exercise instructor will be expected to provide clinical exercise and health promotion interventions both within and external to the PICU, under the supervision of occupational therapist, nurses and the senior exercise instructor. You will be a highly valued member of the clinical multi-disciplinary team.
Successful applicants will have excellent communication and team working skills; be able to work under own initiative; have a good awareness of risk and managing risk; have excellent time management and professional conduct.
You will be supported by regular supervision and ongoing CPD opportunities and encouraged to contribute to the development of the PICU service.
The successful applicant will already have experience of promoting and delivering healthy lifestyle advice and exercise to special populations; of working within mental health services and have a good understanding of the role and philosophy of Occupational Therapy.

Post 2: 0.5 (18.75 hours) – Penn Hospital, Wolverhampton
The in-patient facility at Penn Hospital caters for the city of Wolverhampton and consists of two acute admission wards (male and female) and an older adult ward. The hospital has recently undergone major redevelopment. As part of this redevelopment all of the wards and the therapy department have being refurbished including the development of a new gym on site. The service also has a well-equipped occupational therapy department and good access to community services.
Working alongside experienced multi-disciplinary teams the clinical exercise instructor will be expected to provide clinical exercise and health promotion interventions both within and external to Penn Hospital, under the supervision of occupational therapist, physiotherapist and the senior exercise instructor.
